ON Road - the journey towards tranquillity

Explore our whitepaper, ‘ON Road’, and discover the latest in EV industry and technology.

The quiet electric car revolution

We live in an age where the romance of the road is often overshadowed by congestion, time pressures, and the realities of modern driving. But for many EV drivers, the experience feels different. Electric vehicles are not simply changing how we travel – they’re reshaping how we feel behind the wheel.

In our latest whitepaper, ‘ON Road’, we explore how people think and feel about electric vehicles – examining the motivations shaping both EV owners and those considering the switch, and what differentiates the electric driving experience from an ICE vehicle. Below, you’ll also find thought leadership articles.

Our research found that 84% of people believe EVs are the future of driving, and 4 in 5 people feel driving an EV makes a positive statement about them1.

ON Road - the lure factors of EVs

In this report, we conducted a comprehensive multi-market study – surveying more than 3000 drivers across China, Germany, and the US to understand the societal shift towards EVs. Our aim is to provide insights to help the industry respond to changing expectations – now and in the future.

Rather than focusing on barriers or perceived negatives, the report explores the powerful lure factors drawing drivers towards EVs – from emotional benefits to functional advantages. Our findings have also uncovered a new insight within electric mobility – with an impact that could be industry-defining. Read our full whitepaper to find out more.

The serenity. The silence. The sanctuary.

Castrol ON: Leading the road ahead

The electric vehicle revolution isn’t coming. It’s already here. At Castrol, we’re championing this shift – proving that the EV experience is not about compromise, but about understanding and redefining what drivers value most.

“The EV conversation is evolving rapidly. While early adoption was driven by familiar considerations like range and charging infrastructure, today’s consumers are looking deeper at how electrification fits into their lifestyles and expectations. This white paper reflects Castrol ON’s commitment to staying ahead of that shift – uncovering the emerging factors shaping EV ownership across global markets and helping OEMs anticipate what comes next.”

Matthias Donner

Vice President, Advanced Mobility & Industrial Products, Castrol

"NVH reduction and acoustical design elements in EVs is a dedicated area we are working on and researching at our test facilities around the globe. We want to improve the performance of EVs, and that’s really designed around people in the end.” This reflects a broader shift towards human-centric engineering. Here, insights from psychology, ergonomics and sensory design shape everything from seating, temperature and lighting to subtle, carefully calibrated audio cues for safety and feedback."

Driving EV innovation together

At Castrol, we partner with major EV OEMs from the earliest stages of development – co-engineering advanced EV fluids to support performance and optimise efficiency. And, we’re proud to be chosen by 3 out of 4 of the world’s major vehicle manufacturers2.

Our EV Transmission Fluids are formulated to help reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) within the drivetrain – helping to deliver a smoother and quieter drive2.

Drive quieter3, go further, last longer4

Castrol ON EV Transmission Fluid is engineered to help electric vehicles go further and deliver a greater sense of control behind the wheel. With improved fluid performance helping to minimise vibration, Castrol ON EV Transmission Fluid works to enhance the sense of tranquillity that EV drivers love.

The range features low viscosity technology – helping to reduce internal losses and enhance efficiency. In addition to established testing protocols and standards, we’re constantly evolving and developing new methods to support emerging EV technologies – ensuring our fluids are ready for the next generation of electric mobility.
