Engines are the heart of every car, they take years of development and testing before they go into production. As the automotive industry develops new technologies, engines are becoming more and more complex. 
Car manufacturers constantly adapt engine technology to meet new and demanding legislative emissions limits while continuing to deliver the high-performance levels expected by drivers. This results in smaller but more powerful engines. This changes the requirement from the engine oil. Never before has engine oil played such a key role in delivering performance. 
Castrol EDGE meets these challenges. Castrol EDGE is stronger under pressure and is backed by thousands of hours of rigorous testing both internally and externally due to working in collaboration with OEM partners. This rigorous testing regime allows us to develop a deep understanding of the latest engines and the technology requirements our engine oils must meet to continue to deliver outstanding performance and gain approvals against the latest industry requirements (ACEA/API requirements) and OEM approval specifications. This is why Castrol EDGE is recommended by Volvo and JLR. 

We also work in Motorsport to test the design and performance of our oils on the racetrack in the most demanding of all environments.


New OEM engine specifications are often very contradictory in their demands, which makes it especially difficult to ensure that one oil meets requirements of multiple OEMs. With Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV we launched the first 3 in 1 engine oil that meets the next generation of industry requirements (ACEA/API) and a unique combination of latest, toughest OEM specifications: VW 508 00/ 509 00, BMW Longlife-17 FE+ and MB-Approval 229.72 within a single product.


Castrol EDGE is formulated for hybrid cars in line with HYSPEC – Castrol’s new engine oil performance standard for hybrid cars.
