Working with vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) and motorsport teams over decades, we've accumulated billions of data points which we harness to inform the development of Castrol EDGE. We call this data engineering.

 

Data engineering has helped us identify 7 critical factors* where an engine oil must perform to unlock the very EDGE of performance:

Why power? Engine oil is a vital component designed to help the engine deliver power when it's needed. It does this by helping it utilise as much energy as possible from the fuel, and contributes to power by maintaining the engine's condition across many components and systems. If an engine oil fails to protect just one of these carefully designed components, power output can be affected.
Why endurance? Engine oil is carefully designed to deliver performance and protection. It must withstand challenging engine conditions again and again, providing the same level of performance and protection from the start to the end of the drain interval. An engine oil that cannot endure these conditions for extended periods may start to degrade before the next service – compromising your engine's performance.
Why pressure? In many parts of the engine, oil is subjected to high pressure between metal contacts points. Engine oil responds to this pressure by instantaneously increasing its viscosity – providing additional protection when it's needed most. Failure to withstand the pressure can break down the protective oil film, leading to metal-to-metal contact, increased friction, and accelerated wear.
Why wear? An engine is made up of precisely engineered metal components that must work together seamlessly. Engine oil provides a protective film between these parts, minimising friction and maximising efficiency.
