Castrol invests in Electronic Cooling Solutions to address thermal challenges for next-generation hardware.
13 October 2025, US / UK
Castrol has announced a strategic investment in Electronic Cooling Solutions (ECS), a leading thermal management design and engineering firm based in Santa Clara, California. Combined with its expertise in fluid formulation and robust global service network, this investment will enable Castrol to offer an end-to-end solution – from initial system design and feasibility studies to fluid deployment and ongoing maintenance – supporting the data centre industry to overcome barriers to liquid cooling adoption.
The investment comes at a time when data centres are facing growing thermal challenges driven by increasingly power-dense AI workloads. A survey commissioned by Castrol found that 74% of data centre experts agreed that liquid cooling is now the only option to meet current compute power demands1, but many organisations face barriers to adoption, including concerns around system integration.
ECS specialises in advanced thermal management design, analysis and testing services, using advanced simulation and measurement tools to address complex thermal challenges across sectors including computing, networking and telecommunications. ECS’ client portfolio includes some of the world's leading hyperscalers, chip manufacturers and large-scale original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
As part of the investment, Bharat Vats has been appointed as the President and CEO of Electronic Cooling Solutions. Vats is an industry veteran with a track record of spearheading rapid growth and operational excellence. He is the former President and CEO of Atom Power and brings vast experience from the technology and IT industries, having worked previously with IBM, GE, DANAHER and PARC.
Peter Huang, Global Vice President of Data Centre Thermal Management at Castrol, said: “For the data centre industry to be fit for purpose in today’s AI era, it needs to rapidly adopt new methods of cooling. The sector needs players that can be a partner, a consultant, and a service provider that can offer support from the very early stages of concept all the way to implementation and maintenance. At Castrol, we want to be more than just a fluid provider and provide end-to-end solutions. ECS brings deep expertise in thermal system design, which is important for integrating new solutions into complex computing environments without disrupting them. Together, we can help our customers solve some of their most challenging thermal problems.”
Bharat Vats, President and CEO at ECS, said: "Working with Castrol opens up opportunities to scale ECS’ impact and bring our simulation, modelling, design and testing capabilities to the rapidly growing data centre ecosystem. By combining our expertise, we can help data centres accelerate their transition to more efficient cooling solutions.”
Electronic Cooling Solutions (ECS) is a thermal management consulting firm based in Santa Clara, California, that specialises in advanced thermal design, analysis and testing services for the electronics industry.
