Refrigeration compressor lubricants have evolved to suit the changing refrigerant fluid design driven by legislation. Hydroflurocarbons are served well with our Polyolester range however there are many other refrigerants still in use.
Care must be taken when selecting lubricants to ensure compatibility with the refrigerant. Always check your equipment manual and consult with a Castrol Technical Service Engineer to choose the right product for the right application.
Aircol 266 & 299 are two grades of highly refined mineral based refrigeration oils selected to provide chemical and thermal stability. Exceptional low temperature characteristics make them ideal for use in refrigeration and air conditioning plants which use fluorocarbon refrigerants.
Castrol Aircol 228 refrigeration oils are suitable for use in R22 refrigeration systems with very low evaporator temperatures where manufacturers recommend Alkyl-benzene based lubricants. The range may not suit refrigeration systems with screw compressors as the high level of solubility of refrigerant in the lubricant could reduce its viscosity.
Castrol Aircol 229 synthetic refrigeration oils are formulated from selected polyalphaolefin base fluids and are designed for refrigeration systems using screw type compressors with very low evaporation temperatures. They may suit some systems using reciprocating compressors with high compression ratios and high discharge temperatures.
Castrol Aircol SW is a range of most common synthetic refrigeration lubricants that are formulated from polyolester base stocks. They are specifically designed for use with refrigeration systems using environmentally friendly HFC refrigerants.
