New Castrol Rivermax lubricant delivers advanced protection for marine diesel engines

Castrol has launched Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9, a synthetic heavy-duty diesel engine oil designed to provide superior protection for a wide range of marine diesel engines.

This new formulation, developed for craft used on inland waterways, meets the latest ACEA and API specifications, ensuring enhanced performance and engine longevity.

Castrol has launched Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9, a synthetic heavy-duty diesel engine oil designed to provide superior protection for a wide range of marine diesel engines. This new formulation, developed for craft used on inland waterways, meets the latest ACEA and API specifications, ensuring enhanced performance and engine longevity.


The introduction of Castrol Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9 marks an evolution for the Rivermax product. Previously known as CRB Rivermax, the product has now been rebranded under the Rivermax sub-brand, reflecting Castrol’s commitment to innovation and performance in the marine sector.


The Castrol RIVERMAX 15W-40 CK-4/E9 is suitable for heavy-duty marine diesel engines, including high-speed outboard diesel engines, stern drive diesel engines and inboard diesel engines found in commercial fishing boats, cargo ships, tugboats and passenger ferries.


Castrol Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9 is engineered to support high-speed four-stroke diesel engines operating with a wide range of fuel qualities. It is fully compatible with engines equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and modern exhaust after-treatment systems such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems*.


During their working life, engines can face challenges from combustion by-products that can form piston deposits and thicken the oil. Castrol Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9 contains cleaning agents which help to displace particles that may otherwise build up on the engine’s internal surfaces, helping to reduce deposits and promote engine efficiency. The product also contains antioxidants which help to impede the chemical reactions that can lead to oil thickening, as well as offering protection against wear and corrosion. 


This comprehensive protection across various marine applications helps to deliver a long and healthy engine life. Being based on CK-4, the lubricant exceeds the performance of API CJ-4, CI-4 with CI-4 PLUS, CI-4 and CH-4 categories, and can be used in engines requiring those types.

Castrol Rivermax 15W-40 CK-4/E9 is available now in a variety of pack sizes, including 20L small packs, 208L drums, and bulk and mini bulks.
