  5. Castrol Anvol SWX saves cost of polymer usage in wastewater treatment

$36,000 annual savings in total cost of polymer usage in the treatment of wastewater

Use of Castrol Anvol SWX helps save upto $36,000 annually in the total cost of polymer usage in the treatment of wastewater. Read the complete case study.

  • Castrol Anvol SWX
  • Fire-resistant Hydraulic Fluid
  • Continuous Casters
  • Improvement in Environmental Performance

The challenge

In continuous casters, the hydraulic fluid was in constant contact with the caster water system and had to be treated by waste treatment to remove the oil from the water system.

  • The existing oil is a polyglycol, which does not separate from water.
  • There was a high polymer usage in waste treatment.

The solution

  • $9,000 per month was spent on polymer usage for wastewater treatment.
  • Polyol ester fluid was used, which provided excellent water separation.
  • The reduced polymer was used to waste-treat Castrol Anvol SWX.
  • The volume of hydraulic fluid used was the same during the trial period.

The business benefits

  • By requiring fewer chemicals to treat the wastewater, Castrol Anvol SWX improved environmental performance.
  • It led to $6,000 per month of polymer usage, for the total annual cost of $72,000 ($36,000 savings)

Castrol Anvol SWX’s advantages

  • Higher heat points can provide greater fire protection
  • Smaller wear scar indicates better protection for hydraulic components (like pumps).
  • Much improved air handling performance reduces chances for pump cavitation
  • Protects from corrosion even in demanding environments
  • Much better oxidation resistance leads to longer oil life, component life, and less sludge/varnish
  • No polymer to shear, eliminating fallout and filter plugging
