The Castrol EDGE Ultimate Performance Demo 

To demonstrate Castrol EDGE delivers ultimate performance*, we took on the world's most iconic roads and racetracks on a world-leading racing simulator. Routes and circuits were selected to stress the oil across the 7 critical factors.*

 

Data was extracted to create real-world drive cycles for a test engine. The combined roads and circuits were repeated 120 times to complete the equivalent of an extended oil drain of 30,000 km.

 

The results demonstrated that Castrol EDGE doesn't just meet expectations, it redefines them to deliver ultimate performance in 7 critical factors.*

How we tested the 7 critical factors*

We tracked acceleration and torque to give us a read on the power going out of the engine.
The length of the demo was matched to surpass the recommended oil drain of the test car (30,000 km) and driven continuously.
We pushed the car at the Daytona NASCAR track, running it at max power throughout the lap to push engine temperatures to the limit.
We focused on the valvetrain. They manage the flow of air in, and exhaust gases out of the combustion chamber. It's the job of the oil to protect the components within the valvetrains which maintain the engine's ability to "breathe".
Engine oil provides a protective film between engine parts. Without it damaging metal-to-metal contact can occur. Industry standard wear tests were selected to artificially accelerate wear occurrence in the engine.
Part of the Ultimate Performance Demo replicated conditions of an industry standard wear test, selected to encourage sludge and deposit formation.
To gain a comprehensive overview of the fuel economy parameters of the oil, we incorporated American and European standard tests for fuel economy into the drive cycle as well as the demanding racetrack conditions of the Ultimate Performance Demo.
