Fix radiator leaks and check transmission fluids to protect your engine and drive smoothly.
Radiator and transmission issues are two of the biggest causes of costly engine damage. Here’s what to look out for and what to do.
Radiators keep engines cool. A leak can lead to overheating, so watch for:
In an emergency: Wait for the engine to cool, add water and drive to a trusted workshop.
Corrosion, overfilling, cracked hoses or a faulty thermostat can all lead to leaks.
They’ll check for cracks, test pressure, apply sealant if it’s minor or remove and repair the radiator if needed.

Transmission fluid keeps your gears running smoothly. Low or old fluid can cause gear slipping or grinding.
Run the engine, park on level ground and use the dipstick (if your car has one). Top up through the dipstick tube using a funnel.
If there’s no dipstick, your car may have a sealed system. A workshop can help.
Check regularly. Fluid can last up to 160,000 km but may need changing sooner depending on wear and driving conditions.
