12 mechanics from Mumbai and Delhi qualify for the India finals
National winner to represent India at Castrol Asia Pacific Cars Super Mechanic contest
Mumbai/Delhi, July 3, 2018 – Castrol, India’s leading lubricant company, has launched a new edition of the Castrol Super Mechanic programme for car mechanics, building upon the highly successful Castrol Super Mechanic contest for two-wheeler mechanics launched last year. The first ever Castrol Super Car Mechanic contest held in Mumbai and Delhi last week, saw more than 12,000 mechanics registering to participate in a contest of skill, competency and knowledge. The qualifying round included an Interactive Voice Response element, to test the mechanics’ basic knowledge about cars. Out of these respondents, around 150 of the qualifying mechanics participated in the highly competitive city level competitions held in Mumbai and Delhi, which included both theory and practical rounds pertaining to repair and maintenance of critical car components. The top six winners from each of the two cities will now compete at the all India finals, which will be held in Mumbai on 8 August 2018. The top three national winners will represent India at the Castrol Asia Pacific Cars Super Mechanic contest, which will be held in Malaysia in September 2018.
Castrol launched this innovative and ambitious Castrol Super Mechanic initiative with an aim to recognize the contribution of the mechanic community, ensuring that the efforts of the mechanic community are recognized and appreciated. Through this contest, mechanics get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to test their knowledge and showcase their talent against some of the best mechanics on a public platform. Mr Kedar Apte, Vice President, Marketing – Castrol India, said, “We are overwhelmed by the response received for Castrol Super Mechanic contest for car mechanics, launched this year in Delhi and Mumbai. This event underlines Castrol’s commitment to upgrade the skills of mechanics and recognize their talent and skills through a public platform. These mechanics work hard to keep our country on the move but they are barely ever recognized for their efforts. I am looking forward to an exciting final event in Mumbai.” Sanjeev Sharma from Delhi, one of the city round winners, said, “I still cannot believe that I have won the Delhi round of this prestigious Castrol Super Mechanic contest. It feels like I have climbed Mount Everest today and that makes me feel so proud. I can confidently say that in my career spanning 40 years, Castrol Super Mechanic event is the only platform which has given me the recognition and opportunity to better myself.”
