The unintentional mixing of metalworking fluids and lubricants is a frequently encountered problem. In some cases, one product is “topped off” with another in an effort to avoid the cost of a dump, clean and recharge. Whatever the reason resulting in the mix, corrective action should be taken to try and minimize or eliminate such occurrences.
The mixing of different fluids may also result in the loss of solubility and/or the responsiveness of an additive ingredient used in one or both of the two products immediately or over time. This results in a diminished effectiveness of the additives to perform as intended and a drop in performance.
