Castrol Pyroplex Gold grease combines the stay-in-place strength of a NLGI 3 with a mobility of a NLGI 1. It provides excellent mobility through a wide temperature range while demonstrating outstanding stay-in-place strength when exposed to wet environments as seen in a low 11% water spray-off test result.
To determine a grease’s performance, Castrol Heavy Duty uses the water spray-off test (ASTM D 4049) versus the water wash-out test (ASTM D1264) for two reasons. First, there is less chance to manipulate the data and therefore it is much more reproducible. Second, the test conditions, which include water being sprayed at 40 psi, correlate to what maintenance managers actually face on the job.
Castrol Pyroplex Gold was used on a front-end loader at a concrete company in Pennsylvania. The truck moved over 400 tons of concrete during 10-hour shifts without having to re-grease and testing confirmed an extended grease interval of 100 hours on track/roller applications. The customer improved its operational efficiency by doubling the grease intervals in roller applications and it successfully eliminated the dry spots on the rollers, which had been a serious complaint and safety issue.
