When it comes to lubricating and protecting your driveline components, the final drive can be an after thought. Selecting the right fluid for your final drive is an important component of a proper preventative maintenance program. Unlike transmissions and hydraulic systems, the final drive does not have a built-in filtration system, which can allow contaminants like dirt to infiltrate and possibly cause wear.
Castrol Trans C 50, Trans C 60, and Axle FD-1 offer protection against wear while keeping your final drive lubricated. In the ASTM D4998 FZG wear test, Castrol Trans C provided better wear results than some other competitive TO 4 fluids.
In testing that measures the gear tooth face wear resistance of a fluid by weighing the gear’s weight loss before and after the test in a gear set, Castrol Axle FD-1 provided up to 8 times better wear performance. This is an important test for final drives given gear tooth wear is a concern and can correlate to the gear set in a final drive. These results demonstrate the performance and protection advantage of a premium FD-1 type product.
