American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care Certification, RC 14001, is the world’s most demanding operational management standard for Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) systems. In January of this year, Global Lubricants Technology in Wayne, NJ passed its demanding week-long external RC audit with excellent results. Several key Wayne support functions were also audited: Supply Chain, Procurement, Distribution, Regulatory, Communications and Building Services. When the Port Allen, LA plant cleared its week-long audit, Castrol qualified for RC 14001 accreditation, nearly a year before the ACC’s deadline.
BP Lubricants USA Inc has been an active ACC member for 20 years, joining shortly after our initial commercial production of lubricant additives at Port Allen. Today our latest engine oil products continue to use our in-house technology manufactured in Port Allen.
The RC 14001 standard applies rigor to a broad range of elements important to chemical processes, especially HSSE, chemical product development, risk management, communications with stakeholders and operational management systems (OMS).
The external auditor, who had several decades of ISO and RC experience, stated he had never seen a technology operation better prepared for an initial RC certification audit, and that Castrol’s HSSE culture was one of the finest he had seen anywhere. He was equally impressed with our Port Allen plant.
Because some Castrol fleet customers are affiliate members of the Responsible Care program, our accreditation may be of special interest to them.
