Update from Bureau Veritas, Lab Partner for Castrol® Labcheck®

Over the past several weeks, state and local authorities across the U.S. have issued “Shelter in Place” orders for residents in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These orders instruct people to stay at home and have mandated closure of all “non-essential” businesses.

As an essential business, all Bureau Veritas (BV) testing and inspection services fall under the federal “critical infrastructure” sectors, helping to ensure that HD equipment serviced through the Castrol Labcheck® program is tested normally. All six of BV’s North American oil analysis labs remain open for business and will be following a regular schedule… Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm local time.

The health and safety of BV’s employees and clients continues to be our number one priority. We have implemented several changes in the laboratory to comply with all CDC guidelines and recommendations.

We are monitoring the situation in our labs daily and, in the event the situation changes and it is no longer safe to operate at one, we are prepared to institute our pandemic contingency plan which would include the following:

  • Overnight forwarding of all samples received at the impacted lab to one of our six other North American laboratories
  • Communications to be sent to all impacted clients advising them to begin sending samples to one of the other labs and providing pre-addressed shipping mailers
  • We have taken steps to ensure an adequate inventory of sampling supplies and products, so that we can continue to quickly fill all orders when received

Guidance to Labcheck customers submitting samples to the lab:

  • In terms of taking and shipping samples, nothing needs to change at this point for end-users. BV is recommending that customers use the provided sample baggy (zip-lock bag) in each kit pack. This step provides not only leak protection, but further insulates the bottle from contact and the spread of the virus.
  • At the lab, our receiving clerks are wearing gloves and other PPE when receiving and opening samples. The outside of sample packages and bottles are being wiped clean prior to racking and transfer into the lab.
  • Additionally, we have hand washing stations and hand sanitizers throughout the lab. We have implemented “hygiene enhancement” practices at each lab, where employees are changing gloves and/or cleaning their hands before and after each set of samples.
