Harris Transport has been using Castrol oils for over 25 years. Previously they set their drains at 40,000km on the American diesels in combination with centrifugal oil filters; today with Castrol VECTON's formulation, they have safely extended them out to 60,000km.
They also use Castrol lubes throughout the driveline and switching to Syntrax E solved high temperature issue in their differentials, dropping their temperatures by about 15°C – ideal for their B-doubles and road trains. In addition, they use Castrol Syndrive 50E in the Eaton transmissions. Both these lubes have helped run oil drains in the diffs and transmissions out to 400,000km and giving an average life of between 1.3-1.7 million kilometres, creating major cost savings.
We also help with Oil analysis in both engines and driveline compartments. This allows us to demonstrate Castrol ECTON Long Drain’s protective benefits – especially the wear rate and soot thickening control. The results also show up any anomalies or trends beginning to happen, which lets the business plan well ahead to schedule preventative action.
Ian Harris, the company’s National Fleet Manager explains, “Our relationship with Castrol has amounted to considerable cost savings in the running of our workshop, our service and maintenance bills, and most importantly, extending the life and durability of all our equipment – they just last that much longer.”
Harris Transport run Kenworths and Western Stars powered by Caterpillar, and Volvos with Volvo engines – each averaging between 10,000 to 14,000km a week
Market freight is very time sensitive – it’s all fresh produce that needs to be moved expediently between growers and markets.
