Electric vehicle batteries work hardest when charging and discharging energy. As electric vehicles advance, batteries will face unprecedented thermal stresses due to developments in vehicle performance and ultra-fast charging. To combat this Castrol has developed Coolant e-fluid and is working on unique technology for future battery coolants.

 

THE CHALLENGE

Next generation battery electric vehicles are moving to direct cooling for battery thermal management in order to enable better vehicle performance and fast charging. Efficient direct cooling requires advanced dielectric coolant technology to maintain battery performance over the lifetime of the vehicle.

 

OUR TECHNOLOGY

Castrol Battery Coolant E-Fluid has advanced properties to enable improved battery thermal management performance:

  • Lower viscosity than conventional dielectric fluids such as transformer fluids
  • Strong electrical insulation and high flash point to protect against breakdown and ignition
  • Oxidation resistance to maintain performance over the fluid lifetime.

Castrol Dielectric Battery Coolant e-Fluid has a lower viscosity than conventional dielectric coolants, increasing cooling efficiency and protecting batteries against electrical breakdown.
