Castrol provides expert consultancy and cylinder lubrication to enable you to stay compliant with changing ECA sulphur regulations.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) includes a series of measures to prevent pollution from marine and shipping operations (MARPOL Convention). Part of this addresses sulphur emissions from ships by introducing a global cap on the sulphur content of marine fuel oil and an additional limit in specific waters, referred to as emission control areas, or ECAs. The sulphur limit in marine fuels has been reduced over time, with the current global cap on sulphur content for general shipping at 0.50%wt since 1st January 2020.
Significant changes to environmental legislation around emissions and fuel types mean you may have to adapt to a more complex operating environment with new procedures and specific products for ECA operation being required. Since 2015, fuel sulphur levels in ECAs have been restricted to <0.1% sulphur unless scrubbing technology is adopted. We want to support you to meet the challenges of increasing complexity and uncertainty around cylinder lubrication. The Castrol Cyltech range protects against deposits, corrosive and mechanical cylinder wear, and provides the right formulation of BN and detergency to meet any fuel or engine operation need.
Castrol Cyltech 40SX is a high-performance cylinder oil for use with all compliant fuels. The lubricant features a bespoke detergency system formulated to help provide optimal protection against deposits and cylinder wear.
Tried and tested
Cyltech 40SX is a tried and tested solution, with a proven 25-year track record of cleaning cylinders and over 12 million operating hours with VLSFO.
Potential to deliver 12-50% operating costs savings through optimized performance and risk mitigation (savings opportunity may vary subject to your operating conditions including engine model, operating hours, and number of cylinders).
Cyltech 40SX’s bespoke detergency system provides protection at a lower BN and performs in highly efficient modern engines with high temperatures and pressures.
COur Labcheck Specialist SDA programme combines laboratory analysis of scavenge drain samples with expert knowledge and insight. This enables us to deliver accurate analysis of the engine condition and recommend actions to deliver the optimum cylinder oil performance.
Our Technical Services team is committed to finding SmartGains in your marine operations. This is achieved through scheduling the right lubricants, closely monitoring performance through used oil analysis checks, and offering ongoing support and consultancy.
