THE STORY OF CASTROL RX SUPER'S 2.5 MILLION KMS OF ENGINE PROTECTION PROOF

"I know without a doubt that Castrol RX Super provides the protection we need for our engines. Having serviced one of our truck’s engines for over 2.5 million kilometres, solely using Castrol RX Super, it is clear that Castrol RX Super goes the distance.

With this particular engine, we had always run it in a singular trailer application, max GCM 42T and 20,000km service intervals with a mix of line and local haul. We look for longevity and reliability in the engine oil that we use and Castrol RX Super had provides us the security we needed to keep our engines protected.”

Glen Stephan - National Fleet Manager of Scott’s Refrigerated Freightways and long-time supporter of Castrol RX Super

INTRODUCTION

Protecting a truck engine for 2.5 million kilometres is no mean feat. To see how Castrol RX Super 15W-40 performed we enlisted a technical consultancy firm to independently evaluate the condition of the engine and its components.

BACKGROUND

Castrol identified a truck engine within Scott’s Refrigerated Freightways fleet that was known to have achieved a high number of on-road kilometres without reported incident.

METHOD

The engine was stripped down at a third party workshop and the components were examined visually and photographed by the author. In addition, some components were measured for wear.

KEY FINDING

SIt was found that Castrol RX Super 15W-40 demonstrated superior protection in key areas of soot cleanliness and wear control in critical engine components.

*Engine case study showing evidence of long term performance of Castrol RX Super 15W-40. New engine monitored in single trailer application (max GCM 42T) with 20,000 km service intervals. Following independent engine inspection, no high temperature metal on metal contact was evident. No oil sludge, film or deposit was noted. The engine was finally retired due to fracture of gudgeon pin.
