Transmitting power through hydraulic systems is almost universal across the offshore industry.
Hydraulic systems are found throughout an offshore installation - on cranes, drill floor power units and hydraulic ring mains and are often located where leakage or spillage can escape into the marine environment. High pressures and large flow rates increase the environmental risk in the event of a hose failure; hence Castrol’s range includes environmentally responsible hydraulic oils. The Castrol Alphasyn T range of high performance synthetic lubricants is based on polyalpha-olefin (PAO) fluids and antiwear additive technology providing outstanding thermal stability and good load carrying capacity. It is designed for use in bearings, circulatory systems and moderately-loaded slow moving gear systems operating at variable temperatures both high and arctic low. Alphasyn T should not be used for heavy / shock loaded systems.
ANVOL CF 22
Castrol Anvol CF 22 is a water-based fire-resistant hydraulic fluid specifically formulated for use in all floating drilling and production unit motion compensation systems, including heave compensators and riser, guide line and pod line tensioners. Castrol Anvol CF22 is also suitable for use as the operating fluid in closed loop surface blow-out preventer (BOP) control systems. It is a biodegradable oil. The biodegradability of the product ensures the natural degradation of product should it enter the aquatic environment. Castrol Anvol CF 22 has excellent oxidation stability, good thermal stability and is extremely resistant to hydrolysis. Superior oxidative and thermal stability extends product life, therefore minimising product consumption and waste.
The Castrol BioBar range of environmentally responsible synthetic hydraulic oils has been formulated as drop-in replacement for conventional mineral oils in equipment where there is a risk of accidental spillage or leakage and consequent environmental pollution. Castrol BioBar contains selected additives ensuring good oxidation stability, good anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties and low aquatic toxicity. The combination of base oils used in Castrol BioBar endows it with a very high viscosity index and an extremely low pour point as well as giving excellent compatibility with elastomeric seal materials.
ANVOL PE 46X C
Castrol Anvol PE 46 XC is a high performance HF-D type fire resistant hydraulic fluid enhanced with selected corrosion and oxidation inhibitors. It has excellent hydraulic performance and good fire risk protection. It is suitable for use in hydraulic systems where there is risk of fire and where water containing fluids are unsuitable due to temperature limitations or other reasons. It is specifically designed for use in the electro-hydraulic governor control systems of steam turbines, including systems using fine tolerance servo valves. Anvol PE 46 XC was developed to eliminate service problems in high pressure systems resulting from spool valve erosion/corrosion - fluid leakage and loss of response.
The Castrol Hyspin AWS hydraulic oil range is based upon highly refined mineral oil with a low zinc containing anti-wear system. Castrol Hyspin AWS has excellent hydrolytic and oxidative stability while exhibiting a minimal tendency to produce sludge and deposits and provides corrosion protection to ferrous and yellow metal components found within a hydraulic system.
Castrol Hyspin AWH-M is a range of premium high viscosity mineral oils , enhanced with anti-wear and anti-corrosion additives and a shear-stable viscosity index improver which helps maintain the viscosity characteristics of the product over a wide temperature range. The high viscosity index can allow a degree of rationalisation of hydraulic fluids across different equipment in order to reduce the number of lubricants carried on board. In addition, Hyspin AWH-M has excellent hydrolytic stability and separates rapidly from water contamination.Hyspin AWH-M grades are suitable for use in hydraulic systems and hydrostatic transmissions incorporating gear pumps, vane pumps, radial or axial piston pumps and motors used offshore.
The Castrol Hyspin HVI range of high viscosity index (VI) oils is based on a carefully selected ashless (zinc free) additive system designed to meet and exceed the most exacting performance standards. Hyspin HVI oils are intended for severely stressed hydraulic systems requiring a high level of anti-wear performance and fine filtration. In addition, Hyspin HVI exhibits excellent corrosion protection as well as outstanding thermal and oxidative stability. Specifically suitable for systems containing silver components.
HYSPIN SPINDLE OIL E5 & 10
The Castrol Hyspin Oil range is based upon highly refined mineral oil enhanced with rust and oxidation inhibitors and formulated especially for the lubrication of high speed and precision machine tool spindle bearings. Designed for use in all types of spindle bearings, including high-speed spindle bearings.In Offshore sector these low viscosity oils are typically used in barrier systems.
Castrol’s Hyspin VG range of hydraulic oils is based on highly refined mineral oil enhanced with rust and oxidation inhibitors. The Castrol Hyspin VG range is designed for use in hydraulic systems that do not require anti-wear performance but where rust and oxidation resistance is desirable. This range is also suitable for pumps with silver-plated components.
