As part of a comparative study, independent research was commissioned by Castrol Industrial to look at Castrol Optigear Synthetic X 320 and that of the leading competitor brand to determine both products abilities to deal with both the current and future demand of ever larger wind turbines.
Both synthetic gear oils are used extensively through out the wind industry and they have been specially formulated for wind turbine applications passing all industry recognised test such as long-term FE8 methods and also formulated with anti-scuff/anti-wear additives with high load carrying capacity as well mircopitting protection. These products were all independently tested, against a number key industry criteria:
