A Tribute to Eric

Eric Medlen
The entire BP/Castrol family mourns the loss of our friend and colleague Eric Medlen. Everyone who met Eric will always remember his passion and enthusiasm for the sport he loved and how he touched so many people with his warm smile and engaging personality. While a fierce competitor on the track, Eric was an immediate 'best friend' to everyone he met. As our ambassador for the Syntec Brand, we saw this played out many times at fan/customer meet and greets, trade shows or at our corporate office as Eric captured people's hearts with his quick wit and entertaining stories. He will be greatly missed by all of us in the BP/Castrol family and by his many fans, friends, and competitors. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Eric's family and every member of the John Force Racing Team on the tragic loss of this brave, talented and compassionate young man. He will always be in the hearts and memories of his extended BP/Castrol family.

Fans can continue to leave their messages at
  goodbyeeric@castrol.com.
All messages will be compiled and given to the Medlen family.

Eric your heart, smile and love of racing will be missed. We hope you're racing up there in that big blue sky — and maybe roping a calf or two...

To the family — may peace be found in your heart knowing that your son and brother was an inspiration to many and that he died doing what he loved best. May your memories give you great comfort and may Eric's legacy live long.

Our prayers go out to Eric's family, the John Force team, Castrol, and all of Eric's other friends. My daughter Elisabeth and I were shocked to learn of Eric's passing. We were very fortunate last fall to have won a trip through Castrol to meet the John Force team. It was the best trip we have ever had. The hospitality and friendliness extended to us by Eric and all of the Castrol and John Force family is something we will never forget. At the dinner where we met Eric and the John Force family and team, we were treated not as fans, but as if we were long–time friends, getting together for dinner and a few drinks after hard–day's work. Eric sat across from us, and we listened to his and John Force's stories of racing, and how Eric got into the business.

We know that he will be dearly missed; not only as a team–mate or family member, but as a dear friend to all who knew him. This goes especially for us, two of his most recently acquired fans. To Eric from Elisabeth: We will miss you, and will now, more than ever, treasure the photos of us with you.

Bless you all.

My daughters met Eric at the SummerNationals in Englishtown NJ. He asked my daughter how to spell her name. She thanked him for the picture he signed for her and then told me "he has a nice voice, it's kind" From that day on she was his fan. Rooting him on and telling him through the TV, it's OK - better luck next week. He truly touched my 6 year old daughter. Her grief when she heard about his accident was heartfelt and she mentions him whenever we head to the track or see a Force Car on TV.

Thanks - his patience and kindness to his youngest fans have enforced a love for the sport. Theresa is now 7 and counting the days until she can drive a junior dragster. May she be as kind.

The loss of a child is the most devastating thing a parent can ever experience. I too have lost a son. I am certain of your pain and pray that with time and prayer that you will come to a place of "okayness". It takes a long time and I will keep you in my prayers. People who have never lost a child say that the hardest thing you could ever do is bury your child. I say the hardest thing to do is carry on after you've had to bury them. May God comfort you and give you the strength to go on and live for Eric. Celebrate his life!! Know that he waits for you in Heaven.

Sincerely

My husband and I are avid drag racing fans. My husband drags locally and we go to a national event at least once a year. We are huge fans of the Force racing team and Eric's. We sincerely would like to convey our sadness in a loss of such a great man and drag racer. He will always be in our thoughts at the track and in our hearts. He was blessed with a great father, family and a good life while he was here on earth. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Sincerely,
Ray and Tracey Reiner
