Castrol Marine Allied Maritime Cyltech 80 case study

Allied Maritime Inc, the Athens-based shipping company, has confirmed it is planning to use Castrol Cyltech 80AW in future new building projects following a four year trial of the cylinder oil.
Castrol Cyltech 80AW has been used in four Allied Maritime vessels; MV Futuro Dos, MV Progreso Dos, MV Aventurero Dos and MV Destino Dos. At the end of the test period, key engine components in each of the vessels were remarkably clean and had experienced extremely low wear rates.
The cylinder liners and pistons/piston rings were described 'as new'. Furthermore, the company are extremely pleased with the condition and cleanliness of the cylinder liner, piston crown, piston rings and turbocharger
According to Allied Maritime Inc, Castrol Cyltech 80AW demonstrated excellent performance in all the units under varying operating conditions.
Allied Maritime's experience goes a long way in supporting Castrol Marine's claims that Castrol Cyltech 80AW provides unrivalled advanced protection against wear and scuffing through enhanced resistance to oil breakdown at high temperatures and extra protection from its unique anti-wear (AW) properties.
"We are planning to use Castrol Cyltech 80AW in future new building projects following excellent performance by the cylinder oil during a four year trial," said technical manager Mr A Tselentis
"We have used Castrol Cyltech 80AW in four vessels and have obtained the best possible results in respect of wear and cleanliness of the cylinder liner, piston crown, piston rings and turbocharger. The appearance of cylinder liners and pistons/piston rings is like new. The wear of liners is negligible and the piston rings after 14000 running hours do not need to renewed. All this is very encouraging for extending the time period in between overhauls, saving on maintenance & spare parts costs and improving vessel availability, due to less down time."
