Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)

environmentally responsible factory
FOCUS ON REDUCING VOC EMISSIONS

Because Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) can react to form ozone and contribute to air pollution, their reduction is an important new challenge in the manufacturing process. At Castrol, we have focussed on controlling VOC emissions to help you achieve the best possible environmental protection.
The Solvent Emissions Directive 1999/13/EC

As from the 31 October 2007, a threshold level for corrosion preventives and other metal coatings of < 5 tonnes per annum in all EU Member States came into effect. Anyone who exceeds this limit will have to reduce their emissions and the harmful effects of VOC. This can done by investing in new equipment, replacing VOC solvents completely or reducing solvent use as much as possible.
Helping you to comply

At Castrol, we can help you comply with the new legislation and satisfy your environmental aspirations by:

  • Assisting you in interpreting the legislation and understanding how it impacts your manufacturing process
  • Providing reliable advice on the range of options available and helping you evaluate and select the most appropriate solution for your operations
  • Recommending alternative products including aqueous, oil based and low VOC solvent corrosion preventives
