Marco Melandri climbs on board his Castrol lubricated RC212V

There are hundreds of parts to be played when it comes to getting the Gresini Honda MotoGP bikes to the chequered flag. As an integral member of the team, Castrol's role is vital.

Our extensive range of products is used right across Marco and Toni's RC212V bikes. The Power 1 engine oil allows the motor to run at full chat for an entire race weekend, Castrol fork oil keeps the handling sharp and predictable while our brake fluid makes sure the bike stops as well as it goes.

The Castrol MotoGP engine oil that is used by the race team is the result of 100 years experience in motorcycle engine lubrication and is a close match to the Power 1 technology you will find in high street shops.

"The engine oil needs to clean, cool and lubricate the engine through a range of temperatures while not encumbering its performance," explains Honda Gresini technician Andrea Bonassoli. "When we race we need to increase the power without hurting the engine and that is why we choose Castrol Power 1."

Irresistible

The key to the lubricants is to reduce friction as much as possible and not just in the engine. Less resistance, whether it be in the gearbox, at the axles or in the suspension, means greater efficiency and therefore less heat. Not only does this improve performance, but it can also increase reliability.

As an expert in motorsport lubrication, Castrol also provides support during testing and race weekends, ensuring that its products deliver the highest performance in the most demanding conditions.

With racing machinery, the bike is only as good as its weakest link. It’s a cumulative effect and with the lubricants taken care of, it’s one less area for the team to worry about.

Castrol – it’s more than just oil, it’s liquid engineering.
