Race-Touareg takes first win
The Volkswagen Race-Touareg Team scored a fantastic maiden win in the Cross-Country Rally World Cup last weekend with Bruno Saby making it on to the top step of the podium in the Por las Pampas Rally in Argentina.A milestone achievement for the team which was formed in December 2003 and has Castrol backing this year, the win comes just two months after Jutta Kleinschmidt drove her Race-Touareg to an historic third place in the Dakar Rally in January.
Saby and co-driver Michel Perin took the lead on the second day and never lost it, holding off Dakar winner Stephane Peterhansel, who came home second in his Mitsubishi.
We have a very good car and an equally good team
The icing on the cake for the VW squad was that Kleinschmidt further underlined the speed and reliability of the Race-Touareg by also making it on to the podium in third spot.VW Motorsport director Kris Nissen said: “It’s a tremendous day for Volkswagen. After Jutta Kleinschmidt’s third place at the Dakar Rally in January, we have clearly demonstrated that we have a very good car and an equally good team. Bruno and Michel deservedly won the rally.”
